Testimonies of Healing

Threatening illness healed through prayer

From the May 2000 issue of The Christian Science Journal

While At Work one day, I was suddenly overcome with dizziness and illness. I managed to get to a phone to call a Christian Science practitioner, excused myself from the job, and got to my car, where I could rest and pray. A heavy sleep overtook me, and over three hours later I woke up and slowly drove home.

The practitioner was terrific. She was available at every turn, when I found I was unable to breathe properly, eat, sit up, walk, lie down, sleep, or talk normally. At the time, I was helping to plan a Christian Science lecture for our community, and the practitioner and I faced and challenged through prayer the suggestion that a follower of Christ Jesus could be prevented from doing the healing work of church. We also prayed to know that there was no hidden evil to influence or harm our church or any of its members. I affirmed that I could not be the target of any form of evil. The Bible says woman and man are made in the image of God, and God's image cannot be touched by evil. Under God's government, it is impossible for us to be the victim of personal or impersonal attacks. Science and Health says: "Nothing is real and eternal,—nothing is Spirit,—but God and His idea. Evil has no reality. It is neither person, place, nor thing, but is simply a belief, an illusion of material sense" (p. 71).

During this period, my mother was a stalwart aide. I was greatly helped by her gentle, loving care, and though there wasn't rapid progress right away, there was hope and expectation of good every day. And there was great joy!
