A friend of mine overheard a conversation between a four-year-old and her mother. "My feet are killing me," the four-year-old said, obviously repeating an adult's statement. The mother checked the toes of the child's shoes, noting that there was plenty of room. The little girl continued the complaint, and the mother finally said, "The good Lord Jesus will come and take your pain away." The child's instant rejoinder was, "Let's go and find him." When seeking relief from pain of any kind, we might well emulate the child's prompt response, for in finding Jesus, we are led to his Father, God, and to the healing, reforming Christ.
Jesus spoke little about himself, according to the Biblical record, but when he did, it was most often of his relation to God and of his Christly mission. He said, "I and my Father are one." John 10:30. "I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me." John 6:38. "All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father." Luke 10:22.
Many people think Jesus is God, but he consistently referred to himself as the Son of God. It is his Father, and our Father, who reveals to us Jesus' great mission on earth and his influence on our lives. Jesus was uniquely, virginally conceived to be the Messiah, or the Saviour of the world, and to demonstrate fully the power of the Christ. He is called Christ Jesus, and it is through a growing understanding of Christ that we find Jesus.
