On a shelf in an attic, a leather-bound book had been collecting dust for over a decade. A young man found it at a time he desperately needed it. This book was Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
It had belonged to his grandmother, a woman he had never even known. She had adopted his dad when he was just a little boy, and he had then attended the Christian Science Sunday School. As the young man wiped the dust off the volume, he found himself intrigued with the inscription encircling the cross and the crown on the front cover: "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons." His first thought was, "How wonderful that the Christian ethic calls for Christian healers to do such work."
Shortly after his first investigation of the book, he was instantaneously healed of a hand injury. This healing served to intensify his interest in the book. Within a short time, he saw even greater evidence of the efficacy of the new concepts that had been introduced to him.
