Thoughts of a Reader

From the January 2001 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Dear Father-Mother God, let me Know
this is Your Word, Your message—
these books, these Lessons, this Sermon. The Lesson-Sermon is published in the Christian Science Quarterly. It consists of references from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and is studied during the week by students of Christian Science. Each branch Church of Christ, Scientist, elects a First and Second Reader to read the Lesson-Sermon as the major part of the Sunday worship service . "I can of mine own self do nothing."
Let me be so clear they forget I am standing here;
let Your Word stand, instead.

Let me know we are all chosen to speak
Your Word, Your message, to each one present here;
That I am a reflection of Mind, not a source of it;
That I am a speaker of Truth, not a creator of it;
That I am responsible only to bear witness to this.

Let me be comforted when I am tempted to fear—
"Who made man's mouth?"
Thou art the Word, source of pure truth
far above a human sense of responsibility.
Let me be made perfect in Love, without fear.
