Growing up, I had many healings through prayer, including healings of earaches, chicken pox, colds, and flu. A number of these healings were immediate ones. My parents taught me to rely on prayer to solve problems.
While in college, I lived in a small boarding house with seven other students. At the time, I felt very alone and vulnerable, since my father had recently passed away.
One Wednesday evening I attended a Christian Science testimony meeting. I felt very comforted by the service, and the words of one of the hymns were especially meaningful to me. I walked back to the boarding house humming this hymn by Mary Baker Eddy, which includes the line "Love is our refuge" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 207). I felt surrounded by divine Love. My feelings of loss, aloneness, and vulnerability were gone.
