I would like to express my gratitude for a healing I had of drinking alcohol when I started the study of Christian Science over 15 years ago.
I had developed the drinking habit after I came to Bombay approximately 33 years ago. It had gotten to the point that I was not happy to visit a friend or a house where I would not get liquor. I was drinking at lunchtime and in the evenings, even when I was alone. Drinking had taken over my life.
When I started reading Science and Health, one statement that struck me was, "There is no enjoyment in getting drunk, in becoming a fool or an object of loathing; but there is a very sharp remembrance of it, a suffering inconceivably terrible to man's self-respect" (pp. 406-407).
