Over the last couple of years I have been deepening my commitment to spiritual growth. This past summer, I became much more consistent in my daily study of the weekly Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly.
I'd been having a new hardwood floor installed, and toward the end of the week I became very impatient with the carpenters' lack of progress. On Friday I asked them to take a break from the project and decided to complete the floor myself. I spent the day on my hands and knees working rapidly. That night, I was incredibly sore, but also self-satisfied at the amount of work that I had been able to complete.
The following morning I woke with very large blisters on both my knees, and I found it very difficult to even climb out of bed. One leg appeared seriously infected, and I was running a high fever. Before I began seriously studying Christian Science, I might have gone to the emergency room, as my wife and mother-in-law urged.
