The story of the Albanian Herald

When fighting broke out in Kosovo in 1999, staffers at The Herald of Christian Science longed to help. Below, French Herald managing editor tells the story of what became affectionately knows as "The Albanian Herald." Because of the very nature of war, it's hard to track down the results of good deeds in the aftermath. But we're certain that the healing message of this special edition of the Herald, sent to comfort the citizens of a war-torn nation, in some way found their mark.

We Have To Do something for the people of Kosovo," everyone at the Herald kept saying. "Yes, we have to do something for all those refugees in the Albanian camps." Kosovars were fleeing by the thousands into Albania, filling one refugee camp after another.

Now, we had to find out how to get the Albanian Herald into the camps.
