When the lecture committee for the very small Christian Science Society in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, started thinking about having a public lecture, they weren't sure how they'd be able to manage it. Their funds seemed inadequate and they were anxious about a potentially low turnout. But rather than letting their worries stop them, they prayed "out of the box," as one member put it. Opening themselves up to all possibilities, they trusted that God would guide their yearning to share spirituality and healing with their community.
They didn't let their worries stop them.
Throughout the preplanning stage, lecture committee chair Susan Sherwood thought often about the workshop format that was being tried for Christian Science lectures in the United States. "The interactive format really appealed to me," said Susan, "and I loved the fact that it got people into Science and Health." When an opportunity arose to give a joint lecture with a nearby church, the committee was thrilled. The other church's willingness to pay the lecture fee set the ball rolling for Susan and the rest of the committee.
