LEGISLATIVE ROLE OF THE COMMITTEE ON PUBLICATION

Committees on Publication have interacted with state and national legislatures ever since Mary Baker Eddy's day. Legislative work is one of the special actions authorized under Article 1, Section 6, of the Church Manual. The Committee's legislative role was first approved by The Christian Science Board of Directors in 1903. Its purpose is not so much defensive, as it is to advance and preserve religious rights that are supportive of spiritual healing in general.

"By basing their legislative work on wholeheartedly seeking God's universal laws of justice, freedom, and wholeness," says Jane Warmack, manager of the Committee's legislative division, "Committees around the world are finding governments increasingly responsive to passing laws that provide spiritual healing as a health care option, and religious rights for all."

Committees monitor and respond to legislative and regulatory developments to ensure that Christian Science may be lawfully practiced around the globe. Areas that are monitored generally relate to:
