ALL EXPENSES PAID

From the January 2006 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My family was going through financial instability that had reached the point of crisis.

My husband had passed on, and because this happened at a time when I was just beginning a new career helping others through prayer, I wasn't making much money yet. Our children were in college, so they needed a financial boost at just the time our primary source of income had gone. We were dealing with grief, loss, and lack of resources all at the same time.

Because I was worried and felt so responsible for the family, on top of the grief of losing my husband, my initial prayer consisted of simply trying to stick with God the best I could. Then some ideas about God's nature and His practical presence began to trickle in. I viewed these ideas as a form of income—that is, they were the substance that God was giving me, and I was accepting them. And I knew I could see this "income" grow, because I could pray to hear more ideas, and they would keep on coming. As I kept this prayer up, the trickle of ideas turned into a whole stream.
