"VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL." It's a common phrase among community churches, especially in the summertime, when parents are looking for positive experiences for their children. This may not be a phrase often used in connection with branch Churches of Christ, Scientist, but for Judy Forsyth and her team of planners in Laguna Niguel, California, the idea of a vacation Bible school presented a perfect opportunity. They saw it as a way to offer a week of fun-filled Bible-based activities to their community—and to bring out "the inspired Word of the Bible" Science and Health, p. 497. that Science and Health reveals.
What they didn't foresee is the way it would bring their church members and Sunday School students together as never before.
"Our church had talked about this idea for at least five years, but we never moved forward with it," says Judy, who serves as Sunday School superintendent at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Laguna Niguel. But something sparked after members attended a "town meeting" with The Christian Science Board of Directors at a nearby church.
