Heather Martin thought she was going to have a vacation from all things writing related when she took a trip to Boston last summer. What the doctoral student at Baylor University in Texas didn't know was that setting foot in our offices was as good as saying, "Sign me up for an article!" Sure, it took a few months to make it all happen, but we think you'll get a lot out of the final product. You can find Heather's offering—an article on the value of being childlike—on page 32.
As she'll tell you in her article, "Continuing education" (p. 44), there was a time when Gina McMurchy–Barber never could have imagined winning a teaching award—let alone being a teacher. But she, like the other contributors in this month's section entitled All Things New, discovered a new way of seeing herself that opened up wonderful possibilities. Gina, the 2004 winner of one of Canada's highest educator's awards, is now a stay–at–home mom who assists in the creation of teaching materials.
Having supported a family of nine from his Christian Science healing practice, Antonio Gonga has had plenty of opportunity to witness family and spirituality working together. In "Safe and sound" [p. 56], he tells how his prayers for his son's safety and well–being brought about the resolution he'd hoped for. Though it came about in a way he hadn't initially expected. Still an active family man and healer, Antonio makes his home in the West African country of Angola.
