CHURCH ALIVE

A Reading Room for the Boston Community

From the September 2006 issue of The Christian Science Journal

At The Mother Church's Reading Room — just around the corner from The Mother Church itself — the windows present lively images of the ideas and comforting message that Christian Science brings to the world. The Journal talked with Librarian Margee Lyon about the activities and healings that go on inside the Reading Room.

First, how is a Christian Science Reading Room different from any other bookstore or library?

Mary Baker Eddy established the basis for Reading Rooms in the Manual of The Mother Church (see Art. XXI, Sect. 1). As an essential function of The Mother Church and every branch Church of Christ, Scientist, throughout the world, a Reading Room offers an atmosphere in which to explore the Science of Christianity, to dig into spiritual ideas—on one's own or with assistance—and find answers to immediate challenges. It's where you can study, read, hear, and buy authorized Christian Science publications and products.
