I've found that although the Bible was written thousands of years ago, it nevertheless still speaks in very relevant, practical ways. And thanks to Mary Baker Eddy's unique insights, some words and passages have taken on especially powerful meaning to me. For example, Mrs. Eddy's explanation in Science and Health of the spiritual meaning of angels helped me recently as I prayed for several people who had called me to ask for prayerful support. Sometimes as I pray for myself or others, I keep the following thoughts about angels in mind.
In the story of Daniel in the Old Testament, Daniel's intelligent and savvy perceptions (angels) foiled the murderous plans of his jealous enemies. His enemies' deceptive tricks failed against the army of God's protecting ideas. And the angels of Love are still foiling the deceptive trickery of material arguments in my life and in the lives of people everywhere.
In another Old Testament example, King David credited God's wise and loving guidance (angels) for his protection on many occasions, including the time when one of his sons, Absalom, conspired against him with David's trusted advisor Ahithophel (see II Samuel 15-18). The story tells of how David's friend Hushai was able to thwart the enemy and warn David of the threats against him. Because he'd gotten the information in time, David routed his betrayers.
