The Manual of The Mother Church specifies the following in regard to a Christian Science association of pupils whose teacher has passed on: "Those beloved brethren whose teacher has left them, can elect an experienced Christian Scientist, who is not in charge of an association of students and who is ready for this high calling, to conduct the meetings of their association" (Art. XXVII, Sec. 2, p. 86). Can an individual address only one association per year? The Manual doesn't seem to stipulate.
A1 The Board of Education has received a number of inquiries over the past couple of years regarding this question, and we're delighted to have the opportunity to reply through the Journal.
In view of the fact that our Leader specified in the Church Manual (Art. XXVI, Sec. 6, p. 84) that associations should convene only once each year, and that teachers are to address their pupils only once each year, it would seem to us that a guest speaker for an association should have every desire of approximating the love and devotion the teacher had, and give their all to developing an address for that specific audience and that specific occasion. It is really not possible for us to conceive of anyone being able to replicate that same love and devotion for more than one association in a given year.
