Heather Hayward shares her time as a Christian Science practitioner and teacher between her flat in London and the family house in Barton on Sea in the southern county of Hampshire. There she loves to walk along the beach and cliffs, where, she says, “I do my best praying. The constantly changing moods of sea and sky teach wonderful spiritual lessons.”
This former schoolteacher and mother of three grown daughters and six grandchildren takes great joy in her family responsibilities, which, she says, keep her stretched and often richly amused.
Heather was brought up in Christian Science, with the strongest and most loving nudges coming from her mother, even though her father had no interest in religion. This prompted an early question about families in which just one parent is a Christian Scientist.
