How can Christian Scientists not recognize innovations made in the field of medicine?

From the June 2013 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Q: How can Christian Scientists be grateful for and utilize innovations in technology (e.g., in communications and travel) and not recognize and utilize those made in the field of medicine?

A1: As a Christian Science nurse, I am becoming more and more convinced of the difference in thought between materially based medicine and spiritually based Christian Science treatment. Generally, a medical approach holds the limited view of man as material and imperfect, while the medicine of Mind proceeds from the standpoint of the spiritual, perfect man.

Useful technological innovations enable us to explore the “infinite possibilities” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 34) available to mankind. Efficient ways to travel and communicate, plus the Internet, complement and contribute to the showing forth of our freedom—and the harmony of God’s universe. These advancements are eliminating the concepts of time and space, and enhancing efficiency in business, relationships, education, and so many other areas of life.
