Scientific prayer

From the June 2013 issue of The Christian Science Journal

First appeared in the February 2013 issue of The Herald of Christian Science. Originally written in Spanish.

Humanity has always tried different ways to find answers to the many questions about the purpose and origin of our existence. Some cultures have turned to ritual offerings and dances to communicate with what they considered a superior intelligence. There are religions where there isn’t a main deity, but their followers look for answers in stories that are metaphors for the processes of crisis and spiritual quest of the human being. Other religions seek to connect with a supreme being through prayer.

Prayer can take different forms. There are silent and audible prayers; prayers of petition; prayers that include dancing and singing. On the other hand, Mary Baker Eddy in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures speaks of scientific prayer.

Scientific prayer is the recognition of God, the divine Principle or infinite Mind, who created everything perfect and harmonious, including us as His perfect, harmonious reflection.
