Each of us is loved and blessed by God as His image and likeness. We are not cursed. A few years ago, this point was brought home to me during a time when I had a growth on the side of my face.
I was a salesman at the time, meeting with clients in their homes and offices. Many of them voiced loving concern about my health. I explained that I was having treatment, that I was a Christian Scientist, and that I relied on prayer.
I knew the message of the Christ is that man is not cursed, that Jesus healed from the standpoint of man’s perfection as God’s image and likeness. For example, when his disciples brought to Jesus a man who was born blind, they asked, “Who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?” (see John 9:1–25). This kind of reasoning suggested that if a man sinned, God would punish him.
