“ ‘ I the Lord thy God . . .*

From the August 2013 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Am a jealous God’—indeed,
Yet every whit Love,
I defend my children from false suitors—
From seducing thoughts of fear, sin, or harm—
Compelling inmost, intimate response to Christ’s ‘Peace, be still.’ ”*

We, each of us—
Humble before the Creator—
Know again the ancient covenant:
“I was with you when ‘the morning stars sang together,’*
And will be still, when stars give place to eternal light.”

Dear to His steadfast heart,
We are held tight—
In endless bond of reflection—
By this God of our fathers,
Who loves and guards His own.

*Ex. 20:5
*Mark 4:39
*Job 38:7
