Gratitude for Christian Science impels me to submit this long-overdue testimony of the countless healings my family and I have had over many years.
My maternal grandfather was introduced to Christian Science in the early 1900s. He had been suffering from what was diagnosed as an incurable stomach condition, and he heard of Christian Science from a business associate, who lent him a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy and also suggested he see a Christian Science practitioner. Grandfather proceeded to read the book and became so enraged at what he considered to be close to heresy that he felt it was his duty to convince the practitioner of the falsity of Christian Science.
I don’t know the exact content of the conversation, but quiet reasoning was not his strong point! However, the practitioner, alert and insightful, listened patiently as my grandfather pursued his diatribe. He finally left her office and returned home, only to discover he had been completely healed of the long-standing stomach problem. My grandfather and grandmother, overjoyed at this unexpected turn of events, started attending and eventually joined a local branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and registered my mother and her brother in the Christian Science Sunday School.
