Church united in praying for the community

From the March 2015 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Over the past year, Second Church of Christ, Scientist, in Fresno, California, has placed a greater focus on uniting to bless the community by demonstrating the power of prayer.

This sense of commitment to blessing the community through prayer was grounded in Mary Baker Eddy’s definition of Church, which says in part, “The Church is that institution, which affords proof of its utility and is found elevating the race, rousing the dormant understanding from material beliefs to the apprehension of spiritual ideas and the demonstration of divine Science, thereby casting out devils, or error, and healing the sick” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 583). It was also fueled by the theme of the 2014 Annual Meeting of The Mother Church, “ ‘A Spiritual Foundation of Christ-healing’ ” and the Christian Science Board of Directors’ invitation to study Mrs. Eddy’s article, “ ‘Choose Ye’ ” (see The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, pp. 3–6).

We considered what divine Mind knew about its creation.
