Attending class instruction in Christian Science was the most educational and freeing two weeks of my life. Delving into the Bible and Mary Baker Eddy’s writings lays the foundation for inspired prayer, study, and solid, metaphysical thinking, which, following Christ Jesus’ original teachings, leads to healing.
Planning to attend an annual Christian Science association meeting years later, I got up early for my flight. I always look forward to this meeting—a full day of listening to our teacher explain lovingly and clearly the absolute truth illustrated by the works of Jesus and in many stories in the Bible. With corroborating detail given in Mrs. Eddy’s writings, we further our understanding of God each year and affirm our duty as practicing Christian Scientists. Association meetings provide thorough instruction for grappling with sin and disease in thought and obtaining a clearer perception of the teachings of Christian Science. So enriching is the instruction, inspiration, uplift, and comfort that I know there’s no better place for me to be on that day each year.
However, I got out of bed that morning years ago feeling extremely ill—as though I could do nothing except stay home and curl up in bed. I had no appetite and couldn’t eat anything. Yet I knew without a doubt that nothing could keep me from hearing that year’s association address. I prayed for myself, but felt no immediate relief.
