Over the course of several years a small lump under my arm developed and then grew to a noticeable size. I wore tops with sleeves to avoid people making comments, but since there were no other inconveniences caused, I basically ignored it. That is, until shortly after returning from a trip, when the lump grew alarmingly large and painful. I found myself unable to perform many daily chores, and tight or restrictive clothing was unbearable.
Early on, I made two significant decisions. The first was that my first and only choice of healing would be Christian Science. The thought snuck in, “What if this is life-threatening?” Hard on that aggressive suggestion that something could be more powerful than God was my realization that I trust God with my life. In fact, God is my Life!
I felt a bit like the three young Hebrew men responding to King Nebuchadnezzar’s threat that they worship his golden idol or be thrown into a deadly hot furnace: “Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.… be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up” (Daniel 3:17, 18). Through diligent prayer, the spiritual fact of God’s care for His creation can be demonstrated in our lives.
