Announcement of new Editor of Christian Science periodicals

From the June 2020 issue of The Christian Science Journal

At Annual Meeting 2020, Barbara Vining, CSB, will be leaving her position as Editor of The Christian Science Journal, Sentinel, and Herald. She is looking forward to being able once again to devote her full time to the practice and teaching of Christian Science. But as she leaves, she wanted to share two messages with readers of the periodicals: “I have loved the work of carrying our Leader’s periodicals forward to fulfill their appointed healing missions for humanity in a way that keeps them strong and ‘abreast of the times’ in today’s world,” and “I will continue to write for the periodicals.”

Barbara first came to work for the periodicals in 1992, serving as Associate Editor for six years. She later served as President of the Board of Education in 2003 and President of The Mother Church in 2008. She returned as Associate Editor in 2015 before becoming Editor in 2016. In every role, she has brought her ebullient joy in living Christian Science and sharing its healing message.

Just as we know readers of the periodicals will want to join us in profound thanks to Barbara for her dedication to this important work, we also know they will join us in welcoming Ethel Baker, CSB, of Buffalo, New York, as the new Editor. Ethel brings a depth of experience as a branch church member who has served as Reader, Executive Board member, and Sunday School teacher, and whose first love is solidly in the practice of Christian Science healing and teaching. She is also no stranger to service at The Mother Church, where she has held positions in JSH Editorial, the Committee on Publication, The Writings of Mary Baker Eddy, Reading Room Communications, and Local Activities of The Mother Church. Ethel says, “I look forward to building on the great work accomplished during Barbara’s tenure as Editor and to helping these indispensable publications engage our church family, reach new readers, and embrace our world community in inspiration and healing.”
