On a Sunday afternoon last year I was working in the yard, carrying bags of wet mulch and gravel. As I usually do when a task seems a little arduous, I was thanking God that I was His perfect, strong reflection and that He did not struggle with any of His good work. When the work was done, my wife and I took our usual walk, two-plus miles, to catch up on the day.
Well, that night my back wasn’t feeling 100 percent, and I decided to spend the night in my den listening to a recording of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. About 4:00 the next morning I got a wake-up request from our cat, named Prophet, to get him breakfast and his normal brushing—which I gladly did, although I was still not feeling 100 percent.
Then I decided to slip into bed, and when 6:30 rolled around, I couldn’t move. Every time I tried to move, it was painful. My wife, who is a Christian Science practitioner, was not only offering physical help, but I could tell she was supporting me the best way possible—spiritually, through prayer. We tried moving my legs, and I had to tell her to stop, as it was too painful. Finally with her help, I was able to stand.
