When I was about seventeen, I began suffering from severe earaches. After waking one morning, I felt a stabbing pain in my right ear. It gave me quite a scare, but I decided to continue with my plans for the day and go to school.
I had experienced periodic earaches since I was young, but never like this. Whenever one came, I’d ask my mom to help me pray about it and to share spiritual truths with me, and things would improve. My mother is a Christian Science practitioner, and she supports me in my practice of Science. Throughout my childhood I had been able to address physical challenges through Christian Science, and with the prayers of a Christian Science practitioner. And I had known and been certain about the power of God, divine Mind, to heal.
After spending the day in school in pain, I asked my mother for help again. I knew she was praying for me. That night we read the Christian Science Bible Lesson together, and I studied passages she gave me from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. The passages helped me gain a deeper understanding of God and of myself as His perfect idea.
