I was sitting in a pew listening to a Christian Science church service. The benches were hard and there was a draft, but I didn’t care. I was 25 and had recently made my way back to Christian Science from a world of chaos, immoral behavior, and fearful uncertainty. I was starving for truth and comfort.
The Bible Lesson being read aloud was feeding me spiritual insights from the Scriptures, and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. I so needed spiritual understanding that I was eating it up as fast as it was being shared.
After the service, I felt cleansed and nourished by divine Spirit. I loved being in church. It offered me inspiration and assurance coming from God, and I was truly grateful. Everyone was kind and welcoming toward me. I could see the attendees practicing Christianity in their words and actions. I thought, “I’d like to be a part of this.”
