Renovating a building is a great way to see what is under layers of paint, plaster, and other materials—to uncover things that have been hidden. And sometimes major cracks demand immediate attention. If ignored, these leave faulty foundations that can weaken the entire building.
In the same way, renovating our thinking—seeking to have a more spiritual outlook—brings to light layers of false concepts that need to be removed before we can see our divine identity. For me, attending a Christian Science Sunday School, taking class instruction from a teacher of Christian Science, and dedicating myself to years of study have given me an excellent foundation from which to work. But over time I sometimes allowed material viewpoints to cloud my perceptions. I required deep reinvigoration of thought, not just a new coat of paint!
I found this out when I was experiencing extreme and debilitating pain in my head. The situation was very frightening, and I engaged a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me.
