I have been praying a lot about home. My prayers have included these spiritual ideas specifically: In reality, my home is heaven, the consciousness of God, divine Mind. And because this home is wholly spiritual and established in God, it is eternal. From there, I’ve reasoned that my heavenly, God-protected home is no nesting place for error or destruction, and therefore, I do not have to fear them.
I woke up one morning to find that a tree branch from one of our two massive old-growth mesquite trees had crashed down on our house. However, the truly heavy parts of the branch had missed the roof, the side of the house, and the sliding glass doors. Smaller parts of the branch were on the roof, tangled in another tree, or leaning over a wall. The fact that this branch had been stretching over the house roof several feet and had not damaged our home was, to me, evidence that pointed to our heavenly, God-protected home.
But, while these thoughts were helpful, I still felt a great deal of anxiety over the amount of heavy debris and the challenging prospect of getting it removed. I took a picture of the tree and sent it off to a Christian Science practitioner in a text with the words, “Hi . . . Need prayerful support.” What troubled my thought was not the truth about my home, but rather a false, material picture of a problem that could not be solved.
