Poem

The seed within itself

From the July 2026 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The seed of God’s flower
contains within itself
not only
an ability to bloom—
naturally
receptive to the light, to the
nourishment it needs,
furnished with its own
riveting
form and hue,
and provided with all the loveliness
it requires
to inspire awe, holy joy.

The seed of God’s flower
also contains within itself
an expression of
the generosity of Spirit.
It grows, blooms,
then sends off
an abundance of seeds,
embellishing the landscape with
a beauty that never ends.

Reflecting God’s love to mankind,
may we also
carry within, not only
an ability to excel,
but to give—
a kind word, a hope, a grin,
a precious knowledge of God—
the seeds of divine Love
that grow and win
over despondent, angry, war-torn hearts,
looking for the sanctuary of Love
that calls them in
and whispers:
“Life divine is beautiful
   harmonious
      deathless
         hateless
and all have a place here—
now and forever.
I am with you.
I love you.

“Though the storms of sense
wage without,
the kingdom of heaven
is within
and within reach
here, now,
and I enable you to live it and
to know it.”
