Dear Friend,
In Boston, much is being made of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the American Declaration of Independence, which signaled the first of what Mary Baker Eddy calls three revolutionary struggles. It is important to mark the moment, and to celebrate a victory for human liberty and rights. But it’s also important to recognize, as Mrs. Eddy did, that the most vital call to arms is a mental call to fight daily on the battlefield of thought—to free mankind from sin, sickness, and death.
What a joy it is, and how freeing, to know that even as the world’s images seek to impress us—with divided governments and communities, oppressive technologies and algorithms, global conflict—Christian Science reveals the mental struggles of today are not new and have been overcome before. The lies and the Truth that defeats them are the same as in Christ Jesus’ time, when he healed the sick and raised the dead, and as in Mrs. Eddy’s day, when she discovered and demonstrated Christian Science healing and founded her Church. And more recent generations have continued demonstrating the healing power of God, as recorded here in the Journal.
