Never Alone—always with God

From the June 2016 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Over the years I have walked in nature many times. I have enjoyed walking alone so that I could have time to pray and commune with God. I have always felt that anywhere I go, God’s presence is right there.

My trust in God’s presence brought deliverance in a time of great need. I had a favorite pond that I liked to walk around regularly. One day while walking around this pond, I wanted to get a photo of a water snail, so I walked closer to it. I was walking in mud, which I thought was covering firm ground, but all of a sudden both my feet sank deep into some miry mud. I couldn’t move.

I had on a pair of boots that reached partway up my legs, and I tugged at the boots but couldn’t get them loose. I looked around, but there wasn’t anyone in sight. And it would soon be dark. This was before cellphones, and the thought crossed my mind that I hadn’t told anyone where I was going, so no one would know where to look for me. But I wasn’t afraid. I had been praying during this walk, and I felt God’s loving presence. I knew that God, in His infinite wisdom as divine Mind, would provide an answer.
