Exploring in depth what Christian Science is and how it heals.

THE PLACE OF REASON AND INTELLECT

REASON and intellect are the principal means by which the vast body of human learning has been built up, and their development and improvement are a very important function of education, especially at the universities. Without them, civilized society would lose a great part of its value and interest.

"WHAT HAST THOU IN THE HOUSE?"

In the fourth chapter of II Kings we are given the account of a widow about to lose her two sons to a creditor who would take them as bondmen to satisfy a debt she was unable to meet. She appealed to Elisha, who asked, "What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house?" She replied that she had nothing save a pot of oil.

HOW "MIND MEASURES TIME"

The nature of time and the measurement of time are twin problems which have fascinated great thinkers down the ages. In the Old Testament, for example, the Preacher poses a fatalistic hypothesis, "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven" ( Eccl.

TO WHAT PROGRAM ARE WE TUNED?

One day a student of Christian Science had a physical difficulty. At an earlier date a dentist had told her she had a tooth that must be extracted at once.

THE QUALITY OF OBEDIENCE

Christian Science teaches that obedience is an established fact in the realm of Spirit. Mind and its idea are one.

GRATITUDE AND SPIRITUAL PERCEPTION

" It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: to shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night" ( Ps. 92:1, 2 ).

LET US PRACTICE WHAT WE UNDERSTAND

The way to progress in Christian Science is to practice what we understand. From the moment we catch a glimpse of the value, even in the slightest degree, of the spiritual message of Christian Science, we see a method whereby we can heal the sick and enrich our own lives and extend this blessing to others.

" Jesus required neither cycles of time nor thought in order to mature fitness for perfection and its possibilities," writes Mrs. Eddy on page 11 of her book "Unity of Good.

SINGING SACRED SOLOS

When Paul and Silas were cast into prison, they "prayed, and sang praises unto God" ( Acts 16:25 ). Then the prison doors were opened, the bands of all who were in the prison were loosed, and the two men gained their freedom.

THE COMFORT OF THE COMFORTER

The meaning of the word "comfort" may vary with the thought of each individual, but it is often conceived of as denoting rest, solace, and freedom from pain. However, the synonyms given in one dictionary accord it much fuller meaning and indicate why Jesus spoke of the Holy Ghost or "the Spirit of truth" as the Comforter.
