DIVINE LAW

From the February 1963 issue of The Christian Science Journal

All true law emanates from divine Principle, God. Those who seem to suffer, sin, and die do so because of the belief that there are material laws opposed to divine law and that these so-called laws can at times prevail over the infallible law of God. Earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, and the like, are termed "acts of God," and mankind have been taught to believe that they are helpless before them.

Mrs. Eddy says (Miscellaneous Writings, pp. 256, 257), "Wherever law is, Mind is; and the notion that Mind can be in matter is rank infidelity, which either excludes God from the universe, or includes Him in every mode and form of evil."

The Bible declares of God (Hab.1:13), "Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity." It is obvious that what God does not know and cannot see does not exist in reality and has no power since God is omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent. Whence, then, come the afflictions, distresses, and evils that seem to be about us? Are they not illusions included in the belief that God is unwilling or unable to enforce His law and govern His universe and man in peace and harmony?
