Christ Jesus said,"I and my Father are one" (John 10:30). A definition of "one" is "undivided." Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, declares in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 465, 466), "Principle and its idea is one, and this one is God, omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent Being, and His reflection is man and the universe." In explanation of this profound statement, she continues: "Omni is adopted from the Latin adjective signifying all. Hence God combines all-power or potency, all-science or true knowledge, all-presence. The varied manifestations of Christian Science indicate Mind, never matter, and have one Principle." We can no more think of God without including His varied manifestations or creation, including man, than we can think of the sun and exclude the sunlight.
Mrs. Eddy also says in Science and Health (p. 335), "Spirit, God, has created all in and of Himself." In and of! An infinite creator cannot have a finite creation. Since God is infinite Spirit, there is no space for matter to occupy. Christian Science teaches that in proportion as the belief of life and intelligence in and of matter disappears, the true facts of being become apparent. We learn, then, that the only life and intelligence are in and of God. As we catch even a glimpse of life and intelligence as spiritual, not material, some measure of healing takes place.
The mesmeric belief in the commingling of mind and matter brings sin, disease, and death. This is the Adam-dream. The finite claims to ape the infinite. In and of matter is the false claim—unreality. In and of Spirit is the truth of being—reality. In Acts (17:28) we read, "In him we live, and move, and have our being." In divine Spirit, then, in Principle, Mind, Soul, Life, Truth, Love, "we live, and move, and have our being."
