Everyone desires to attain true satisfaction; and did not the Psalmist point the way when he said, "I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness"? The progressive unfoldment of spiritual understanding brings increasing satisfaction, because it reveals the true spiritual selfhood, which cannot know dissatisfaction. Discord and suffering have no abiding place in Truth, and seem to exist only to so-called mortal consciousness or a false sense of self; and when this is laid off by the recognition of the real man, the only place where error could claim to exist has been destroyed.
The words of God to Moses, "I am the Lord: and I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty," show that early in the history of religion all power was revealed as belonging to God. It is likewise true that besides the term "Almighty" as a name for Deity, the Bible refers to God as infinite.
" The Christian Scientist has enlisted to lessen evil, disease, and death; and he will overcome them by understanding their nothingness and the allness of God, or good," writes Mrs. Eddy on page 450 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
Of the ten lepers who were cleansed, only one returned to give thanks. Surely, the other nine must have been grateful for the healing of that dread disease, though they neglected to give glory to God or to express their gratitude to Jesus.

To borrow the form of Pilate's well-known question about truth and ask, "What is peace?" would probably elicit a reply indicating that peace is regarded as the absence of war. Yet that is no more pertinent than it would be to say that light is the absence of darkness, or good the absence of evil.
Consecrated practitioners of Christian Science recall the faith of the centurion who came to Jesus with sublime confidence in the Master's knowledge of Truth, saying, "Speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. " In the hearts of those who truly strive to follow Christ Jesus there is embedded a deep desire to gain an understanding such as the Master had, and to obtain similar results.
Christian science is the law of God, and demonstration of its truths requires progress in individual understanding. Its purpose is to reveal God to mankind.
The tendency of mortals to hold tenaciously to preconceived opinions and traditional beliefs, to resist new and more constructive ideas, has always been a serious deterrent to human progress. To be truly progressive, the individual must be able to discriminate intelligently between the differing sides of any question.
