The saving destiny of Christian Science

One summer as I was looking out to the south of the site of Pleasant View, in Concord, New Hampshire—where Mary Baker Eddy once lived—I wondered, How is it that this slight New England woman could become the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science? How is it that she was the one to recognize the signs of the second coming of Christ? How can the coming of Christian Science be an example of divine destiny and of the fulfillment of biblical prophecy? Answers to this type of question depend largely on our understanding of the meanings of words—words like "destiny," "prophecy," and "revelation. " As in all things, Christian Scientists are called upon to go far beyond ordinary definitions as outlined by popular usage or scholastic theology.
