"To every creature"

From the March 1981 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Just before his ascension, Christ Jesus instructed the disciples: "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."Mark 16:15. Mankind's salvation, man's sonship with God, his holiness and perfection—these were the good tidings they had heard and were to share. They were to show how these are realized through the spiritualizing impact of the Christ on human consciousness. And this tremendous message was to be preached without exception to everyone.

Mrs. Eddy obeyed this instruction of the Master when she opened up the teachings of the Comforter, promised by Jesus and made available once again in their spiritual import through Christian Science. Like the disciples, those chosen to carry the message vocally must not only be qualified to communicate effectively, but they must be able to enlighten others spiritually with healing, saving truths.

Mrs. Eddy named this fundamental church activity The Christian Science Board of Lectureship. "It is the duty of the Board of Lectureship to include in each lecture a true and just reply to public topics condemning Christian Science, and to bear testimony to the facts pertaining to the life of the Pastor Emeritus,"Manual of The Mother Church, Art. XXXI, Sect. 2. she explains.
