Love's healing embrace

From the March 1981 issue of The Christian Science Journal

As a child I was sometimes taken for a holiday on a farm. To welcome me, the farmer's wife would come to the door, hold out her arms, and I would run toward her and disappear into that loving embrace. All my childish troubles would vanish as if they had never been. Even today the comforting memory of that welcome is fresh in my thought as a sign of God's presence always with us.

In ways that are just as vivid, divine Love meets our needs through the Christ. Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, writes, "Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness."Science and Health, p. 332. Thought is illumined by the truths we hear when we listen to the Christ. We need a childlike acceptance of its message, with absolute certainty of the continuous presence of divine Love.

How can we demonstrate in our daily life the truths Christ gives? When we hold steadfastly to the fact that wherever we are, Love already is, we feel divine comfort and power no words can describe. This comfort is not a human power; it is not dependent on a human presence. Mrs. Eddy writes, "Hold perpetually this thought,—that it is the spiritual idea, the Holy Ghost and Christ, which enables you to demonstrate, with scientific certainty, the rule of healing, based upon its divine Principle, Love, underlying, overlying, and encompassing all true being."Ibid, p. 496.
