When the Magi followed the star to Bethlehem, they were expectant of seeing the promised Messiah. Obedient to divine direction, they journeyed faithfully, took gifts, were filled with reverence and joy, and acknowledged the divine significance of the babe.
To awake to the reality of the Christ changes one's life. The Christ at work in consciousness cleanses thought and is an impregnable defense against the pseudo forces of evil that knock at one's mental door.
