Purity, not sin, is man's origin

Man Is Incorruptible

From the December 1977 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In a world where security is often sought through a frantic grasping for stability in matter—in sensual satisfaction, drugs, or manipulation of the human mind—a spiritually educated individual can become a vital regenerative force. Each of us has a responsibility and a capacity, discerned through Christian Science, to claim as his consciousness that Mind which is absolute and supreme, for God is the Mind of man. Divine Mind knows only its own spotless character, is subject only to its own law of good. Individual spiritual consciousness is the expression of divine Mind, God.

Contrary to some currently popular theories, these are spiritual truths upon which one can rely and from which one can build solidly and progress securely. Christian Science presents and explains them and shows how to make them practical. For example, two sentences by Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health press the active exercise of a simple but largely disregarded quality of thought: "Chastity is the cement of civilization and progress. Without it there is no stability in society, and without it one cannot attain the Science of Life." Science and Health, p. 57;

A powerful demand of the Mosaic moral code, chastity can be seen in a more universal setting as an essential element of social, political, and personal stability.
