PONDERING RAINBOWS

From the December 1977 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When I was a little girl,
one of the most exciting things
was finding a rainbow after a storm—
and more so, if in another part of the sky
the storm was still in progress.
Then, when I was older, I learned what
a rainbow really stands for:
God's promise to His children
that He will not let error
flood the earth.
That promise is eternally here,
whether we see the rainbow or not.

Just think of all the rainbows—
all around:
in soap bubbles;
in dewdrops sparkling in a spider web;
in the flash of a diamond;
in a whole crystallized world after an
ice storm when a ray of sun hits.

Without light, there would be no rainbow.
Without God, there would be
nothing.

What I'm trying to say is, we are surrounded
by rainbows, whether we are aware of them
or not; and we are surrounded by God,
whether we are aware of Him or not.

As a rainbow breaks into
thousands of scintillations, all beautiful,
man is the manifold individual reflection
of God—

Always beautiful!
