Prayer in Christian Science does not plead with God to change a sick mortal into a well one or a sinner into a saint. Rather, it seeks to understand more fully what God is and what He has already done for man, made in His own image and likeness.

Are you irritated or depressed by the thought that more testimonies should be given—or that the ones given should include more specific healings instead of so much metaphysical talk—or that the ones given usually contain too many details of experiences and not enough spiritual truths? Does it worry you that there are those who testify more than they should and others who hardly ever testify but should? Are you apprehensive about the effect of these services on young people and visitors? Most people who attend the testimony meetings have surely felt troubled occasionally. They want them to be inspired and effective.

Once while watching a cat I learned a valuable lesson on how to express love. Some friends of mine, who were professional cat breeders, had among their many cats one that was extremely unfriendly and nasty to all the other cats.

When you read a fine metaphysical article, do you perhaps say to yourself, "I wish I'd written that"'? And then do you immediately think, "But I never could"? Well, you're right. That article was an individual expression of that author's study, prayer, and demonstration.

In the Bible we find many records of healings taking place through complete reliance on spiritual means alone. In the Biblical records of Christ Jesus' healing ministry, for example, there is no mention of his ever using material remedies.
