In an article titled "Deification of Personality," Mary Baker Eddy says: "Christian Scientists should beware of unseen snares, and adhere to the divine Principle and rules for demonstration. They must guard against the deification of finite personality.

In working out problems through Christian Science it is helpful to ask ourselves, "Where are our affections?" Physical healing and harmonized experience come to an enlightened state of consciousness that relates more to Spirit than to matter. And if our affections are mainly material, we need to learn to love the spiritual more, since Christian Science healing is based on the allness and oneness of Spirit, God.

When a child fails to live up to desirable standards, his parents are apt to ask themselves, "What did we do wrong?" Psychologists and educators agree that a child's homelife is most important in determining his attitude toward society. The thought of the parents, Christian Science shows, is instrumental in influencing the mind of the child.

There is a genuine basis for a morality that is not dominated by worldly trends. It is the understanding of divine Truth.

Why go to church? If you are a young person, you've probably asked that question of yourself, your parents, your friends. If you are an adult, have you wondered why young people challenge traditional church attendance? Perhaps each one of us should ask himself what his purpose is in going to church.

What makes me conscious of existing? What says, "I am aware of living" or, "I am here"? Many of us have asked ourselves these questions. Furthermore, we may have even asked, "Is there any real purpose in my being here?" In the face of the general belief that the life of man is merely a space of time between birth and death, that it is material and hence destructible, one might possibly see no purpose at all in living.

Is there anyone who, at some time or other, has not wished tomorrow were already past? An upcoming examination we dreaded or a business conference or trip not relished may have prompted the thought. Under trying circumstances, what comfort may be gained from the Biblical assurance: "It is done.

Sometimes when people are faced with a difficulty of some sort—perhaps sickness —they tend to reason along these lines: Why should this happen to me? I don't know why I should have this! I wonder if it is something I ate! Maybe I tried to do too much yesterday! And they go on and on trying to explain the discordant condition, trying to give it a cause. But does it have one? Where does this sort of wondering get anyone? No place! Can we explain erroneous and suppositional human belief? Can we justify an unhappy, unhealthy, or inharmonious condition? If we can, then it must be reality.

Utilizing God's healing power in individual experience depends on individual inspiration, on spiritualizing thought through gaining increased understanding of God and of man's relationship to Him. God is demonstrable Principle, and His laws eternally govern man's real and only being.
