Testimonies of Healing
In our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy tells us, "Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks" (Science and Health, p.
As I was rereading the New Testament, I came across this beautiful verse in Matthew, "For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you," and I thought with gratitude what the practice of that verse had meant to me. Years ago I thought I had an enemy, and at that time it was a great temptation to me to talk the person over with my friends and expose the errors of his way.
I had a fall about two years and a half ago which injured my knee. Four different doctors examined it and pronounced the trouble to be water on the knee, which had become chronic.
On page 404 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says, "Hatred, envy, dishonesty, fear, and so forth, make a man sick, and neither material medicine nor Mind can help him permanently, even in body, unless it makes him better mentally, and so delivers him from his destroyers.
It is sixteen years since I have availed myself of the privilege of expressing gratitude for Christian Science through our periodicals, and it is an overflowing heart which prompts me again to seek this privilege. At the time Christian Science found me I was wretched in mind and body, condemned by materia medica to die, rebellious, filled with an agony of fear, despairing, trying to pray to a God who I felt could not or would not hear or help me, trying to love a God who seemed not to care for His creation.
I send this testimony hoping it will help some one as I have been helped by those of others. We took up the study of Christian Science four years ago for our first child, as he was poorly nourished and remained very thin.
I wish to express my gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me in the last five years. Wonderful though the healings of such discords as influenza, neuritis, and asthma are, I feel that I owe a greater debt of gratitude for the measure of spiritual understanding, gained by constant study and effort, that has enabled me to work out many difficult problems.
I wish to express my deep gratitude for the many blessings and healings that have come to me through Christian Science, and to testify to the quick results obtained through the ever present power of Truth. While attending to the fire in a stove, and stooping over, a flame burst from the lower door, which was open, causing me to fall to the floor.
I am as thankful for the testimonies I read every week as if they were my own experiences. I am sending my own, praying it may encourage some one who is seeking the way of life and peace.
I am not a Christian Scientist but am thankful for the help I have received through Christian Science, and have become desirous of knowing more of this wonderful truth. I am employed in a shipyard.
