Testimonies of Healing
For all the health and happiness that Christian Science has brought into my life, I am deeply grateful. My first healing in Science was from heart strain.
Inherent in human nature is the deep-seated desire to know and understand causation. At the age of thirteen I was taken regularly from a denominational Sunday school to attend the lectures of an ethical society and then and there began a mental chemicalization on the subject of religion that never ended until the ceaseless and persistent questions thus aroused were fully and finally answered in Christian Science.
Before becoming a student of Christian Science, I looked upon Scientists, as many do who are misinformed, as worshiping Mrs. Eddy.
I have realized so much good from reading the testimonies of others that I would like to testify to the great blessing Christian Science is to me. I have been blessed in so many ways through the study of this truth.
For the past seven years Christian Science has been a constant help, giving me comfort, healing, and joy anew every day; but what I am most thankful for is the understanding of God as Father-Mother. This came to me just before I had to part with my son two years ago, when he had to join the army.
To one student of Christian Science the word rejoice has taken on a wonderful meaning since an experience of a year ago last winter which led her to see the importance of rejoicing under every circumstance. Throughout the Psalms David constantly admonishes us to rejoice.
The thought came to me recently that if every one who had been helped by Christian Science had done as I have been doing for years we would have no testimonies to help and cheer us,—namely, waiting until all problems have been solved, to tell of the help received. I have had two wonderful demonstrations of the power of God to overcome sickness and discords of all sorts, sometimes with the help of others, sometimes through my own understanding of Truth.
I wish to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. My little daughter when three weeks old contracted pneumonia, and it left her with an ear trouble which became chronic.
Having been enabled to depend absolutely upon God during the past thirty years, through the knowledge gained from a study of Christian Science, I can but feel the deepest gratitude to Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer of this healing religion. I can remember as a child having experienced many so-called children's diseases, such as measles, chicken pox, croup, and throat trouble, with no other remedy than perfect trust in the ever presence and omnipotence of God.
When living in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1909, I asked a friend to tell me how to get help in Christian Science for my child who was down with scarlet fever. A practitioner was called and came in the afternoon.
