Testimonies of Healing
With deep gratitude I give this testimony for what Christian Science has done for me. Christian Science came to me when my physicians, after a consultation, had declared there was no hope for me.
I find the testimonies in the periodicals interesting and beneficial, and, remembering the words of Jesus, "Freely ye have received, freely give," I feel it is my duty, as well as privilege, to send in a testimony, and do so with a desire to help others as I have been helped. I can truly say I am grateful for some understanding of Christian Science.
I have long intended sending my testimony to the Journal or Sentinel, but have put it off repeatedly until a more convenient season. Recently while working out a certain problem I came across these words of Paul to the Ephesians: "Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand," and it came to me that I had not done all so long as I omitted to send my long delayed testimony, and I determined to express my gratitude for Christian Science without further delay.
Five years ago I was in despair, having suffered for several years with severe stomach and nervous troubles. The physician finally declared that drugs and dieting would not cure me.
As Christian Science has been my liberator from sickness and pain, I write this testimony in the hope that it may help others. I was a sufferer from tubercular disease of the hip joint and underwent an operation, but without any healing results, as it left an open wound for seven years.
I wish to testify to the power of Truth to overcome all error. When all material aid had failed and it seemed I had but a few short months to live, Christian Science was resorted to, with the result that not only the disease in question but many others were overcome.
During the summer of 1919 I was in bed for four weeks, suffering severely from inflammation of the bladder and adjacent parts. I had heard of Christian Science before my illness, but did not have enough faith in its healing efficacy, and thus, in order to quiet the severe pain, was forced to resort to opium.
It is four and a half years since, not without some trembling. I threw away medicine and destroyed prescriptions, one of the latter being a lotion for daily use which had been used with the briefest possible intermissions for nearly twenty years.
It is with a heart full of love and gratitude to God and to our beloved Leader that I send the following testimony. One day during the month of August, 1917, while I was curling my hair a hot iron slipped from my hand, striking the ball of my right eye, causing severe pains.
I wish to tell of some of the many blessings I have received since coming into Christian Science. When Science was lovingly brought to my attention I was apparently a mental and physical wreck.
