Testimonies of Healing
I first became interested in Christian Science through attending a lecture on that subject, after which I began to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mrs. Eddy, on account of a depressed mental condition.
I am very grateful for Christian Science, for through it I have found God. Before coming into Christian Science I went to a denominational church but was never really satisfied and did not know what or where God is.
It is my sincere desire that this testimony may help another seeker for health and happiness as the testimonies of others have helped me, when I was in need of a better understanding of God. I am a member of a branch church and regularly attend the services, and consider it my duty to express through one of our periodicals my deepest gratitude to God and to all who have helped me to understand Christian Science.
I have delayed sending this testimony, finding it difficult to express adequately in words the wonderful work accomplished by Christian Science. For the past twelve years or more I have relied upon it entirely for healing and have proved it to be the truth.
My share in the blessings of Christian Science has been great, one of which was the overcoming of restlessness which I seemed unable to control, which forced me again and again, as a nurse, to leave a case or any employment anywhere, within a few hours or a few days. No amount of money was sufficient to induce me to stay naturally at work, because of insistent restlessness.
It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I testify to the many blessings, physical and moral, which I have received through Christian Science. For two years I had been treated by oculists, having worn glasses for a long time to correct a defect from birth, which was every day getting worse, and my sight was also being weakened through the strain of night work which I had had to do.
I am writing this testimony hoping that it will help those who are easily discouraged to take courage and still go on with Christian Science. Periodically I had been suddenly attacked with severe pains in my stomach, so severe that I have been obliged to go to bed, use a hot water bottle, and take a hot drink.
I am truly grateful to God, also to Mrs. Eddy for the healing through Christian Science of what the doctors claimed to be muscular rheumatism in its worst form.
There had never been a moment in my experience in which such wonderful and happy changes had taken place as when I received my first treatment in Christian Science. I had enjoyed comparatively good health until about twenty-five years ago when I began to suffer most severely with what the physicians pronounced to be gallstones.
For twelve years it has been my privilege to witness the healing of disease through Christian Science. The effect of the scientific application of the understanding of Principle in the treatment of bodily ills no longer seems miraculous, and while I am deeply grateful for what I have seen in this direction I am most grateful for what I know of the power of divine Mind in human affairs.
